Rep. Stanford helps secure $1 million for Wayne land; $1.3 million for Mountlake Terrace revitalization

OLYMPIA – Yesterday lawmakers approved the final parts of a capital budget that will invest $3.9 billion across the state in important projects like classroom construction and create more than 45,000 jobs.

The budget allocates more than $7 million for the greater Bothell area, including $1 million for Wayne land preservation — $500,000 in local projects and $500,000 for the Salmon Recovery Funding Board.

Rep. Derek Stanford (D – Bothell) helped negotiate the capital budget as vice chair of the House Capital Budget Committee.

“The Wayne land provides a unique chance to combine outdoor recreation, outdoor education, and salmon habitat restoration, all in a location easily accessible from popular regional trails,” Stanford said. “I’m happy our partners in the Senate understood the need for preservation of this land and its importance to our community.”

Among other projects, Stanford ensured the budget included:

  • $500,000 for the development of a dedicated STEM building at the University of Washington – Bothell
  • $1.3 million for main street revitalization in Mountlake Terrace
  • $1 million to complete the North Creek Forest in Bothell
  • $492,000 for preservation of Hooven Bog in Snohomish County

“The funding for UW Bothell continues to establish our community as a destination for highly-skilled STEM degrees for 21st Century jobs,” Stanford said.
