Pettigrew receives committee assignments, retains leadership position

The House Democratic Caucus has approved the committee structure for the upcoming legislative session. State Representative Eric Pettigrew (D-Seattle) has once again been appointed to several key committees.

Rep. Pettigrew will serve on the Agriculture and Natural Resources, Public Safety, Rules, and Appropriations Committees. In addition to his appointment to the Appropriations Committee, Rep. Pettigrew will serve on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education. That subcommittee will be tasked with making funding recommendations for early learning, K-12, and higher education following the state Supreme Court’s landmark McCleary decision.

“My committee assignments are reflective of my long-held priorities in the Legislature,” said Rep. Pettigrew. “Ensuring safe and healthy communities, protecting our state’s natural resources, writing a budget that reflects our values, and a public education system that is as efficient as it is effective are just a few of my goals ahead of the coming session.”

In addition to Rep. Pettigrew’s committee work, he will continue to hold the number three leadership spot within the House Democratic Caucus after his re-election as caucus chair last month.

Rep. Pettigrew has served as caucus chair for the past two years and is the highest ranking African American in the Washington State Legislature. This year he will begin his sixth two-year term in the House of Representatives.
