Rep. Pettigrew given “Pioneer” award by digital public schools

Aaron BarnaRep. Eric Pettigrew is an education rebel.  He’s not aligned with any one group or special interest.  He’s a long-time believer in doing what works.

“Traditional public schools must provide a strong foundation and path to success for Washington’s students,” Pettigrew said.  “It is our job as legislators to give these schools the tools they need. But it is also our job to watch, listen and learn.  If Washington’s education system is not working, we can’t keep doing the same thing.”

Digital public schools provide quality, personalized learning opportunities to children across our state. Students work through lessons online, gather regularly in group classes, get help from certified teachers and do lots of extra-curricular activities.

“Not every child’s path to success will be the same. So we can’t provide every child with the exact same learning opportunities and expect to get great results,” said Pettigrew.  “For thousands of children across the state, digital public schools provide the education they need. It works.”

Parents enroll their children in online learning opportunities for a variety of reasons: their child was falling too far behind, other children’s behavior was negatively impacting their child, their child wasn’t being challenged or pushed far enough, or their child has outside passions he or she wants to pursue.  Online schools provide children with a flexible and specialized education the need to succeed.
