Rep. Tarleton named to task force on maritime and manufacturing industry

Rep. Gael Tarleton of Seattle has been named to a task force that was created in a bill she sponsored and that aims to promote maritime and manufacturing industry in the state.

Tarleton’s House Bill 2580, which passed the Legislature this year with overwhelming bipartisan support and was signed into law by Gov. Inslee, establishes the Joint Select Legislative Task Force on the Economic Resilience of Maritime and Manufacturing.

The task force is directed to look into educational, regulatory, infrastructure-related and other policies affecting the maritime and manufacturing sectors and to make recommendations to the governor and Legislature next year on ways to boost those industries.

Tarleton is one of six members of the House of Representatives appointed to the task force by House Speaker Frank Chopp. They will be joined by six state senators and a gubernatorial appointee.

Tarleton served as a Port of Seattle commissioner in 2007-12 before her election to the Legislature.
