Rep. Morris praises VCRD’s move to site sewage treatment plant

Statement by Rep. Jeff Morris regarding Victoria Capitol Regional District’s proposed siting of a primary sewage treatment plant

Victoria, BC and surrounding municipalities take steps to stop dumping raw sewage into the Strait of Juan de Fuca

“Today the Victoria Capitol Regional District took a giant step forward in settling on the location for a primary sewage treatment plant to treat raw sewage. I would like to thank Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps for her leadership in moving this critical issue forward. It was important that this decision be made before the March 31, 2016 deadline.

“I have asked our state budget negotiators to remove the travel ban on state employees I requested from our operating budget proposal. If site selection stalls, causing PPP to pull their $88 million in funding dollars by the March 31, 2016 deadline, we will call for a tourism boycott of the Victoria Capitol Regional District. As part of this boycott we would encourage travel to other regions of Vancouver Island that do treat their raw sewage.

“Siting critical infrastructure is a difficult process. I commend the Victoria Capitol Regional District on moving from a two-decade process to actually siting a plant.”
