Statement from Rep. Judy Clibborn on the latest Senate Republican Transportation Proposal

House Transportation Chair Judy Clibborn (D-Mercer Island) has issued the following statement in response to the most recent transportation revenue package proposal released by Senator King:

“The House and Senate made significant progress towards a bipartisan transportation investment package last year. Unfortunately this new proposal discards many items we agreed upon and puts new, ideological ideas on the table. Countless hours of negotiations have been undone and we are left more distant than we were when the year ended.

“Furthermore, it remains unclear whether this package has sufficient support to pass the other chamber. It is impossible to negotiate with a position that doesn’t even have clear support from its backers. That is why the House passed its transportation package last year, and why we remain insistent that the Senate either pass its proposal or provide a clear demonstration of 25 votes.

“We look forward to resuming negotiations once the Senate Majority has finished negotiation amongst itself.”
