HB 1851 – The state must be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. That’s true whether we are providing services directly or we’re contracting out those services to the private sector.
Gaps in current law prohibit the state from ensuring taxpayer dollars are used in the most efficient manner possible for outsourced projects.
Sometimes outsourced projects are done wrong, which then most be fixed by state employees. These mistakes can lead to budget overruns and delays, which means taxpayers essentially pay for the project twice.
This bill will give the state more accountability and transparency tools to ensure projects outsourced to the private sector are completed on budget, on time, and achieve the original goals of the project.
In this time of limited state resources, we must ensure those resources are used wisely. As managers of tax dollars, the state should make sure the work is done as promised and on time.
