Thurston County courthouse bond bill approved by House of Representatives

OLYMPIA – Thurston County residents are one step closer to getting a new courthouse with the passage of HB 1344 by the state House of Representatives on Monday.

HB 1344, sponsored by Rep. Laurie Dolan (D-Olympia) will allow bond levies to be repaid within 25 years instead of a the current requirement of nine years.

“This bill is critically important to the voters of Thurston County,” said Dolan. “This bill will allow them to finance a new courthouse over 25 years instead of nine years, thus making it feasible.”

HB 1344 was approved by the House of Representatives by a vote of 74-22. The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
