Biography

As a mother, state representative and former city council member, Tana brings a unique perspective to legislative issues. She has consistently advocated for improving life and work balance for busy families, addressing ongoing education and transportation needs, and looking for upstream solutions to maximize taxpayer dollars.

As a state representative for the 41st Legislative District, Tana sits on the Appropriations Committee, the Education Committee, and the Early Learning and Human Services Committee, where she serves as Vice Chair.

In the Legislature, Tana has championed legislation to close the gender pay gap and ensure our children have access to social emotional learning in our schools and mental health services.

After earning a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University, Tana worked as the national director of domestic policy at the Jewish women’s organization, Hadassah. She continued her work with nonprofits as a government relations and communications consultant for the next decade and then as Communications and Marketing Director for the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle before her tenure on the Mercer Island City Council.

Tana serves on the board of Hopelink, on the Advisory Board of the UW Masters of Applied Child and Adolescent Psychology Program, and as a member of the National Association of Jewish Legislator’s national board. She has held previous board roles on the Mercer Island Youth & Family Services Foundation, the Island Park Elementary School PTA, the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and the National Breast Cancer Coalition.

Tana and her husband have two young children and a big black lab.
