House Transportation proposal funds needed Spokane projects

OLYMPIA – Upon announcement of the House Transportation Budget today, Representative Marcus Riccelli, D-Spokane, released the following statement:

“I am extremely honored to be a part of Representative Clibborn’s transportation revenue cabinet and to have had the opportunity to advocate for a package that will help our farmers, manufacturers and other businesses thrive by making it easier and cheaper to get their goods to market.

“It’s time we start addressing the congestion and connectivity issues that are holding us back. These investments show a major focus on making sure we begin meeting the demand for fast and reliable transportation options in our communities while creating nearly 100,000 jobs across our state.”

The $15.2 billion House proposal includes nearly $800 million for Spokane projects including:

  • $750 million for the North-Spokane Corridor finishing 5 miles of roadway and an interim connection to I-90.
  • $18.025 million for Central City Line that would put the city in a competitive position for federal matching grants and will provide design, construction, vehicle procurement, and other costs.
  • $8.8 million for the construction of the University District Gateway Bridge, connecting the Riverpoint Campus and residential and business developments.

The House Transportation Committee will consider action on the proposal on Tuesday.
