This morning, Rep. Marcus Riccelli was elected Deputy Majority Whip by his Democratic caucus colleagues in the House of Representatives. The second-year lawmaker will assist both Democratic and Republican colleagues to ensure that floor debate moves forward in an efficient fashion.

”I’m very excited and honored to have this new responsibility,” Riccelli said. “We have a long list of priorities this legislative session. Especially in a short session when time is limited, it’s imperative that we keep our eyes on the ball. I’m ready to help accomplish our legislative goals and move Spokane – as well as the entire state – forward.”

Just a few weeks ago, Riccelli was appointed as vice chair of the House Health Care & Wellness Committee. He is also a member of the House Capital Budget Committee and the House Transportation Committee. Last year, Riccelli served as an assistant whip.

Born and raised in Spokane, Riccelli graduated from Mead High School in 1996 and from Gonzaga University in 2000. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration Degree (Gonzaga), and in 2007 he earned a Master of Public Administration Degree (University of Washington).

Outside his duties with the Legislature, Riccelli is active in Spokane’s downtown Rotary 21, and he has served as a Big Brother with Big Brothers and Sisters of Spokane. Among many other community-service activities, he currently co-directs the Spokane YMCA Youth Legislature Delegation.

Riccelli and his wife, Amanda, have two young children.
