Jeannie Darneille earns Marilyn Holzman Humanitarian Award
February 13, 2007
OLYMPIA—The winner of the Marilyn Holzman Humanitarian Award is state Rep. Jeannie Darneille.
The Tacoma Pierce County Bar Association presented the humanitarian award to Darneille last week for her efforts on behalf of persons who are living with AIDS.
Darneille has served as Executive Director for the Pierce County AIDS Foundation since 1989.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to receive this award” said Darneille (D-Tacoma), who represents the 27th Legislative District in the House of Representatives. “I would like to accept it, not only for myself, but for all in Pierce County who have dedicated a part of themselves to combating AIDS and improving the lives of persons who are living with HIV/ AIDS.”
The Marilyn Holzman Humanitarian Award was created by the Bar Association to honor humanitarians who have benefited the Pierce County Community. It is named in honor of Marilyn A. Holzman, a highly respected member of the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association who lost her life to breast cancer in October 1996. It was presented at the 99th Annual Lincoln Day Banquet by outgoing Bar Association President Lynn Johnson.
The award reads:
For devotion to the welfare of human beings
striving to alleviate pain and suffering
and for other philanthropic endeavors.
