Right now in one of our communities, a family is living through a very real nightmare that we all dread. Their daughter, Lindsey Jo Baum, is missing. They are doing everything in their power to find her and bring her back home safe and sound. All of our good thoughts are with this family. If you would like to learn more, Lindsey's friends and family have established a website. Please know that the Legislature has enacted or revised dozens of laws in recent sessions designed to keep Washington's citizens, especially our children, safer. That job is not finished yet, and I welcome your ideas. |
Thank you so much for visiting my Web page! I certainly hope this information encourages you to become more involved with your state Legislature.
I’m honored to represent our 35th District. Citizens and businesses of our region are no different than folks and companies anywhere else in Washington. We all have a great deal at stake in the legislative process.
Certainly, it’s true that our state’s huge revenue hole will take up a large and well-publicized part of our attention. But other challenges on the legislative agenda are every bit as significant. I want Olympia to help find ways – fiscally responsible strategies – to make sure our communities and state:
- Rebuild our economy. People should have a realistic opportunity to obtain and keep a reliable, good-paying job.
- Reinforce our schools. Students should have a world-class education enabling them to compete against the world.
- Re-emphasize our responsibility to the environment. Families tomorrow should enjoy the same natural resources we count on today.
- And recommit ourselves to health care. Senior citizens and other folks in this the richest nation on Earth should have basic, affordable medical services.
Yes, we face the worst recession since World War II. Hard economic times that have plagued most other states for more than a year are now slamming us – with a vengeance. But we need to look at these hard times as an opportunity. We have an opportunity to focus on rebuilding the economy – to focus on getting businesses and people back to work.
I believe that together, we can pull out of this economic mess – and stand stronger than ever for having done so.
