Doctor, civic leader Robert Randall remembered for service to Kitsap and state

February 16, 2009

OLYMPIA – The late Dr. Robert W. Randall, a Bremerton optometrist and state representative, will be honored by Rep. Christine Rolfes (D-Bainbridge Island) on Monday, Feb. 16, at a ceremony memorializing deceased legislators. The Legislature’s Joint Memorial Service will honor 25 deceased former members, paying tribute to their service to Washington state.

“It is touching and humbling to honor Dr. Randall, a great man who not only represented our district for eight years in Olympia, but also served on the Bremerton school board and later the state school board, underscoring his passion for education,” Rolfes said. “He was a devoted public servant and an engaged community member—a great example for us all.”

Born in 1921, Oak Park, Ill.-native Randall went on to serve in the Air Force during World War II. He then earned degrees at the University of Washington and the Northern Illinois School of Optometry before settling in Bremerton, where he practiced optometry for 40 years. He served in the Washington State House of Representatives from 1969 to 1977. Randall passed away on Oct. 15, 2007.

Monday’s ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. during a joint session of the Legislature on the Senate floor in the Capitol building. Visitors are welcome to observe from the gallery; however space will be limited, as many family members are expected to attend.

The Joint Memorial Service is an annual event.
