2008 WASL results are in

The Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) released WASL scores for the class of 2008 today.

Plenty of anxious students and parents have been awaiting these scores because this is the first class required to pass the WASL to graduate.

In fact, the Class of 2008 is the first that must meet these new graduation requirements:

  1. Pass a state standards-based assessment (the WASL) or approved alternative
  2. Complete a “High School and Beyond Plan”
  3. Complete a “Culminating Project”
  4. Earn sufficient credits (the state requires 19, but most districts require more)

OSPI reports that 91.4% of our state’s 67,099 seniors can walk down the aisle to collect their diploma this month.

A noteworthy point is that for most of the students who aren’t graduating, it’s not the WASL that’s to blame, but lack of credits. But they still have choices. Students can take the August high school WASL or submit a "collection of evidence" to try and meet graduation requirements.
