Armed Forces license plates now available for more veterans’ family members June 12, 2008 Starting today, family members of eligible veterans and military personnel can show their pride with an Armed Forces license plate. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Washington National Guard license plates have been available for veterans and surviving spouses since 2006, but the Legislature expanded the specialty plates in 2008 at the request of military family members. Qualifying family members eligible to purchase one of the armed forces license plates now include spouse, child, parent, sibling, aunt, uncle or cousin. The Armed Forces plate costs $40 plus any applicable licensing fees. The Veterans Stewardship Account receives $28 from the purchase and renewal of each plate. The Veterans Stewardship Account is used for activities that benefit veterans, such as maintaining the future state veteran’s cemetery in eastern Washington authorized by Rep. Don Barlow’s 2007 law, and providing programs and services for homeless veterans.
