Hunter leads House budget writers again

Rep. Ross Hunter of Medina will again head the key budget-writing efforts of the majority House Democrats in the 2013 Legislature, serving as chair of the Appropriations Committee.

The Appropriations Committee considers the state operating budget bill, which details most of the $30 billion-plus in biennial outlays. It also handles global fiscal issues such as pension policy as well as bills with significant fiscal impacts. The committee comprises subcommittees for education, for general government and for health and human services.

The majority Democratic caucus in the House approved committee assignments for all its members today.

Hunter also led the majority’s budget-writing work in the 2011-13 term as chair of the Ways & Means Committee, under a different committee structure that has since been updated for 2013.
