Rep. Lytton elected vice chair of House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee

Rep. Kristine Lytton (D-Anacortes) has been elected by her colleagues to serve as vice chair of the House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee during the upcoming 105-day legislative session, which begins Jan. 14.

The official charge of the Agriculture & Natural Resources panel is to consider and shape legislation “relating to agricultural production, marketing, and sales; animal and plant disease control; fisheries and wildlife; forest practices and forest fire protection; water; and mining.”  The committee also deals with bills relating to the management of much of Washington’s state-owned lands.

“I asked for this position because so many of the issues the committee will address are vital to our district,” Lytton said.  “We’re fortunate to live in one of Washington’s richest farming areas, and it’s an outdoors-oriented tourism mecca as well.  The jobs and the quality of life that our families count on are affected every day by the decisions made in Olympia.  I look forward to helping to shape those decisions during what we know will be a challenging legislative session.”

Lytton, who was elected Deputy Majority Floor Leader by her fellow House Democrats shortly after last month’s elections, will continue to serve on the House Education Committee, and will take a seat on the Finance Committee as well.
