Republicans bring D.C.-style politics to our Washington

Dome125x150Well, Olympia has just had its second Sine Die. But nothing is finished.

Senate Republicans need to hear from the public that everyone’s tired of this strategy of holding a budget hostage to ideologies. It is our duty to fund kids. Our paramount duty. Everything else might be nice to have.

But kids must come first. We still need a biennium budget, a transportation revenue package, and a capital budget.

Just like our wi-fi technologies, all three budgets depend on each other. Governor Inslee talked to the legislators today and reminded us: The public wants us to do our job. We must pass a budget. Invest in our future. Keep people and freight moving.

Let our people enjoy our state parks. Give our local government partners the ability to create jobs, help families get back on their feet, maintain bus service and build rail transit, fund affordable housing, repair school buildings, connect rural communities to the internet, and make streets and roads safer for bikes and pedestrians.

That’s why July 1st is a real cliff (not make-believe). If the Senate Republicans don’t want to work with the House Democrats, then it’s time for the public to tell the Republicans that their D.C-like “my way or the highway” politics aren’t welcome here.
