Reykdal secures spot on newly-formed Finance Committee

State Representative Chris Reykdal (D-Tumwater) received his committee assignments for his sophomore term in the House of Representatives when the House Democratic Caucus released their committee structure this morning.

Rep. Reykdal, a longtime proponent of tax fairness, will serve on the newly-created Finance Committee. The House Finance Committee will be charged with considering issues of state and local revenues, including tax increases, decreases and exemptions.

“The creation of a finance committee in the House is a signal of our caucus’ commitment to sensible tax reform,” said Rep. Reykdal. “I’m excited to have a seat at the table when we work to stabilize our revenue streams and create a tax system that is equitable.”

In addition to his position on the Finance Committee, Rep. Reykdal will continue to serve as vice-chair of the Labor and Workforce Development Committee. He’ll also be a member of the Higher Education and Rules Committees.

“The 22nd legislative district is home to public servants who have suffered under the budget cuts of recent years. It is home to middle class families who struggle under a regressive tax system and to institutions of higher education that are continually asked to do more with less,” added Rep. Reykdal. “My committee assignments reflect not only the district I represent, but my priorities as a legislator as well.”

The upcoming legislative session begins on January 14, 2013.
