State one step closer to accepting public works bids electronically

The House passed legislation today to integrate technology in the bidding process for state work.

“This bill is an effort to make sure doing business in Washington is more efficient and less costly,” Stonier said. “If we can pay our bills online, we can make it easier for businesses to submit their bids by allowing them to do so electronically.”

Sponsored by Rep. Monica Stonier (D-Vancouver), House Bill 1841 will allow state agencies authorized to conduct competitive bidding public works contracts to accept bids submitted electronically. Currently, contractors bidding for work from state agencies must do so in-person, which may require travel across the entire state for some.

HB 1841, which passed unanimously, will proceed to the Senate for consideration.
