Wylie to work on helping businesses with financing options

Speaker of the House Frank Chopp recently appointed Rep. Sharon Wylie to the Washington Economic Development Finance Authority (WEDFA), an independent agency within the executive branch of state government.

solarWEDFA, which was created by the legislature and started operations in 1996, finances qualifying projects, mainly in the manufacturing, processing and waste disposal sectors, through “non-recourse” low interest loans and bonds that reduce the borrowing costs for the businesses.

“I am pleased to become more involved in ensuring our state supports businesses that create jobs to sustain our current and future economy,” said the Vancouver Democrat.

Wylie will bring her experience in management, public relations, business and government to WEDFA’s 17-member governing board formed by the directors of the Departments of Commerce and Agriculture, the state treasurer, two state representatives, two state senators, and ten public members.

“Today a healthy economy depends on smart collaboration between the business, financial, governmental, academic and non-profit sectors,” Wylie said. “This board brings those sectors together to help provide critical capital at low interest rates for businesses.”
