In 1978, Kathy and her family moved from Ohio to Washington where she instantly fell in love with the state’s beauty and the friendly people in Mason County. After settling in Shelton, Kathy and her husband, Dr. Gary Haigh, founded the Haigh Veterinary Hospital.
Kathy’s first foray into politics came in 1986, when she was elected to the Southside School Board. She left the board in 1998, but still counts ensuring that every student in Washington receives a quality education as one of her highest priorities.
In 1998, Kathy was elected to the Washington state House of Representatives. In the legislature, she has worked to strengthen our public schools, develop efficient public transportation systems and improve state government effectiveness and accountability.
In addition to her work in our state’s capitol, Kathy served as the first female president of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association. She’s also been active within Save Our County’s Kids (SOCK), the South Puget Sound Veterinary Medical Association and the Skookum Rotary Club.
Kathy and her husband Gary are still proud residents of Shelton. They have two sons- Eddie and Dan.
