Steve is a lifelong resident of the 29th Legislative District. Since his first election to the House in 2000, he has served on eleven different House committees, including the distinguished Committee on Committees. He has chaired the House Business & Financial Services Committee in multiple legislative sessions.
Before coming to the Legislature, Steve built an extensive record of community and neighborhood involvement. He served four terms on the Tacoma City Council and was active on its committee on Public Safety. He served on numerous civic boards and commissions, including the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health, Pierce Transit and the Tacoma-Pierce County Workforce Development Council.
Steve and his wife, Beckie, live in southeast Tacoma. They have five children, five grandchildren…and two dogs.
