Health Care Cost Transparency Bill signed by governor

OLYMPIA – Most people have no idea if the prices they pay for their health care are fair. Entering a hospital, medical examinations and procedures aren’t listed on the wall with a price tag. Finding out what you owe usually comes after receiving a bill, often after insurance has denied the claim despite the consumer having proper insurance coverage. Patients need to know the upfront costs they’ll face when they are provided with care. With more access to care comes … Continue reading

Let’s get the job done right

The 2015 legislative session came to a close last week but as you’ve probably heard the legislature was unable to come to a budget deal, so today we begin a special session to continue negotiations and finish the work we came here in January to do. Our children’s education, the safety of our communities from mental illness, and valuable family support programs are all at stake as we enter a new round of negotiations. The House Democrats’ budget aligns our … Continue reading

The proposal makes important investments in K-12 education, early learning, foster care programs, mental health funding, and our safety net. With this budget we support an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few. Today we plan to vote the budget out of the House (tune in to TVW to watch the process). Did you know that the state actually has three distinct budgets? … Continue reading

What do our tax dollars pay for?

This week House Democrats are working together to propose a budget for the 2015-17 biennium. You’ve heard us say before that we’ll need new revenue this year if we want to continue to fund the services and programs our communities rely on. Extremists like Tim Eyman would have you believe that our state government is overspending, that there is no budget problem and we can fund our schools and everything else by just making cuts to excessive government spending. This … Continue reading
