Rep. Senn’s introduces bi-partisan bill to address social-emotional learning standards

State Rep. Tana Senn recognizes the importance of good mental health skills in order to achieve academic success. That’s why she introduced HB 1760, which has bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate. Her legislation creates a work group to provide advice and develop benchmarks for K-12 schools social-emotional learning programs.

“Unfortunately, too many students experience stresses like homelessness and bullying to depression and playground conflict,” says Rep. Senn. “In order for children to be ready to learn, they need to have not only academic skills, but also social and emotional ones. Solid mental health is a critical building block for life.”

The bill is scheduled for a public hearing in the Education Committee later this week.
