Puyallup Fair no more?

Planning on  Doing The Puyallup this year? Well, you can’t… not exactly, since it has a new name. While Doing The Washington State doesn’t have the same ring to it and could take some getting used to, the fair itself will remain the place that brings people together, generation after generation.

Only bigger and better.

puyallupThis year, from September 6th to the 22nd, along with pumpkin carving, animal exhibits, and rides, you can expect to see East Side agriculture represented at the fair including wine, tree fruits and wheat, and you will also have the convenience of a cell phone waiting lot, you know, like the ones they have in airports.

The name change may come as a bit of a shock to some, but it’s been in the works for about five years. The fair’s board of directors figured having “state fair” in the name could bring in more national sponsors, vendors and entertainers. Besides, the fair has grown so much over the decades that it ranks in the top ten largest fairs in the nation employing about 7,500 people each September, so it only made sense to rebrand it with a name that more accurately reflects what it has become.

Changing the name is one thing, but the jingle we’ve enjoyed singing along to since 1976 may not be an easy feat. Chances are, even with the new name, we’ll still be Doing The Puyallup every year.
