Unemployment rate remains at 6.8%, the lowest since late 2008

The Employment Security Department released its June report yesterday and the news is that we’re doing well.

Paul Turek, a labor economist for the ESD put it this way: “It’s a strong jobs report that is split between a re-energizing private sector and a sagging government sector.”

Our state added 9,800 private sector jobs with major wins in construction, professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and education and health services. In contrast, the manufacturing sector had a slight drop of 200 jobs, and government jobs fell by 5,900.

These figures are evidence that our state is pulling forward now that we have regained about 84 percent of the 205,000 jobs lost during the recession.jobs
