Washington state No. 4 for boosting health coverage

Only three states did better than Washington in giving more people health insurance, according to a national survey.

Gallup says 16.8 percent of people in the Evergreen state didn’t have health insurance. Now, after Washington helped lead the way on health reform, that’s down to 10.7 percent.

Gov. Jay Inslee released a statement hailing the achievement, stating, “Gallup has confirmed what we know from our experience here in Washington: expanding coverage for working people in Washington by effectively implementing needed reforms makes a huge difference.”

Inslee said 600,000 people have signed up for health care using Washington state’s marketplace, WAhealthplanfinder.
