WASHINGTON STATE

Washington State House Democrats

HOUSE DEMOCRATS

Fully Fund Education NOW. No more delays.

As newly-elected members of the House of Representatives, we are proud to join a group of Democratic lawmakers who are committed to fully funding our public schools.

We come from different communities with different priorities, but we all agree that an education funding solution WILL be adopted by lawmakers this session.

No more excuses. No more delays.

Each of us ran for office because we believe every student should have opportunities to learn, and to achieve their dreams.

The Washington state Constitution is crystal clear – it’s our paramount duty to fully fund basic education for all kids. Period.

The state has failed to meet its constitutional responsibility for over three decades.

Today is a new day. And today, lawmakers from both parties need to put ideas on the table and negotiate a compromise solution – a solution that honors the promise our constitution makes to students, parents and teachers.

House and Senate Democrats have proposed a strong set of solutions that ease the burden on taxpayers by ending the reliance on local levies to pay for basic education.

We’ve offered solutions that pay public school teachers what they deserve to be paid.

Solutions that ensure every school in every district will be fully funded for the next generation of students.

Funding education by sweeping money from other accounts is no solution.

Funding education by slashing health care, public safety, and other critical state services is no solution.

Our public schools need stable, reliable, and sufficient sources of revenue to provide quality educations for the next generation of kids.

We work for you, and we’ll continue to work on finding solutions. We encourage you to make your voices heard as well.

If you want your lawmakers to support a fully funded education system for Washington’s 1.1 million public school kids, there’s something you can do right now.

Call, write, email, or visit your state legislators and tell them Washington needs an education-funding solution, and it needs it now!

No more excuses. No more delays.
