POULSBO — Washington’s Legislature is billed as a part-time body, but for Rep. Sherry Appleton and many of her colleagues in the state House and Senate, it’s actually a full-time job. Earlier this summer, Appleton (D-23, Poulsbo) opened a district office in Poulsbo to be available to constituents in her Kitsap district throughout the legislative interim.
Appleton’s district office is located at 19860 Jensen Way NE, Unit 7, in Poulsbo. The phone number is (360) 930-8127.
The longtime state lawmaker has worked out of her home during previous interims, but saw the need this year for an easily accessible location to conduct legislative business. “I’m sure at some point many years ago, serving as a state representative really was a part-time job,” she said, “and many legislators do have ‘day jobs’ where they work when we aren’t in session. But as the issues we all face have become more complex over the years, we need to be available year-round for face-to-face meetings with the people that we work for: our constituents.”
Appleton and her legislative aide, Shannon Turner, plan to keep the district office open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays until the 2020 legislative session begins in January, and resume that local office schedule once the 60-day session adjourns in March.
