Sex-trafficked children are victims and deserve help — not detention
This past summer, the world stopped for a moment in collective horror when ultrawealthy financier and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was once again indicted on a charge of child sex trafficking and sexual abuse of young girls. His ties to the rich and powerful were splashed across tabloids, reflecting a garish political soap opera. Signs popped over the summer up in the Port Gardner neighborhood against a proposal by the Everett School District and Housing Hope to build supportive housing on lot owned by the school district on Norton Avenue.

Everett considers ban on supportive housing
Wednesday night the Everett City Council is expected to decide whether to prohibit supportive housing in single-family residential areas. A public hearing is scheduled before the vote. At least two councilmembers have voiced concern about the recommendation by the planning commission, which if passed would halt a plan by the Everett School District and nonprofit developer Housing Hope for such a project in the Port Gardner neighborhood. Washington attorney general asks state Supreme Court to let car-tab cuts happen
The Washington State Attorney General’s Office is asking the state Supreme Court to allow voter-approved car-tab tax cuts to take effect this week, despite a lower-court ruling putting the cuts on hold. The Seattle Times reports the state filed an emergency motion Monday saying Washington voters’ wishes are being “stymied” by a King County Superior Court judge’s decision to stop Initiative 976 from taking effect while a legal fight over the initiative’s constitutionality plays out.
