
WA cities reconsider Flock traffic cameras as judge rules their data is public
Police in Redmond, Lynnwood and Skamania County have turned off their Flock Safety license plate reading surveillance cameras or delayed implementing them, as officials and residents express concerns about who can access the photos and data they generate. That unease, including over how federal immigration enforcement agencies may access the data, has intensified after a Skagit County Superior Court judge ruled this month the cameras’ pictures and information must be made public in accordance with state law. The Republican federal budget bill has devastated Washington families
As the Republican shutdown of our federal government dragged on, harmful impacts to Washington state increased. From federal employees working without pay and threatened with mass firings, to 900,000 Washingtonians threatened with losing food assistance, state legislators have been hearing from constituents who are fearful and worried for themselves and their families. But it’s not just the shutdown causing pain for Washington households. Seattle braces for mutated flu strain spread
A new version of the flu is spreading rapidly and raising concern among public health experts, who are warning of a new flu outbreak ahead of winter. Why it matters: The new flu strain, a version of H3N2, emerged over the summer, raising fears that the current flu vaccine might struggle to fight it.
