The House Hot Sheet for Week 7 of the 2026 Legislative Session

Monday

Week 7 of the session includes the last few days to hear and move bills passed over from the Senate. Monday afternoon kicks off with executive session scheduled in the Community Safety Committee for SSB 5855, banning the use of face coverings by law enforcement officers, prime sponsored by Sen. Javier Valdez (D-Seattle). The committee will also hold public hearings on 2SSB 5974, from Sen. John Lovick (D-Mill Creek), modernizing and strengthening laws concerning sheriffs, police chiefs, town marshals, law enforcement agency volunteers, youth cadets, specially commissioned officers, and police matrons and E2SSB 6070, prime sponsored by Sen. Manka Dhingra (D-Redmond), supporting the recovery of missing persons.

In the Housing Committee, a public hearing is scheduled for E2SSB 5496, preserving homeownership options by limiting excessive home buying by certain entities, an important housing bill from Sen. Emily Alvarado (D-West Seattle). The committee will also hear ESSB 6200, concerning renters’ and mobile home occupants’ ability to install portable cooling devices, prime sponsored by Sen. Vandana Slatter (D-Bellevue).

Later in the day, the Appropriations Committee will listen to public comment on the House proposed Supplemental Operating Budget, HB 2289. The Transportation Committee will also hold a public hearing on the House proposed Supplemental Transportation Budget, HB 2306.

 

Tuesday

Tuesday morning begins with the Capital Budget Committee, which will hold a public hearing on the proposed House Capital Budget, HB 2295. At the same time, the Finance Committee will hear from the public on the Millionaire’s Tax, proposed by Sen. Jamie Pedersen (D-Seattle), ESSB 6346.

Later in the morning, the Civil Rights & Judiciary Committee has executive session scheduled for Sen. Yasmin Trudeau’s (D-Tacoma) ESSB 6002, regulating automated license plate reader systems, aka Flock cameras. Also scheduled for a possible vote, Sen. Alvarado’s ESSB 5993, lowering the interest rate for medical debt, and Sen. Drew Hansen’s (D-Bainbridge Island) ESSB 5925, concerning the general powers and duties of the attorney general’s office. The Technology, Economic Development, & Veterans Committee has a planned vote on ESSB 5984, new legislation to regulate artificial intelligence companion chatbots, offered by Sen. Lisa Wellman (D-Mercer Island).

Afternoon committee hearings include the Consumer Protection & Business Committee listening to public testimony on ESSB 6031, prime sponsored by Sen. Lovick, enhancing public safety and enforcement of crimes that impact insurance. The Community Safety Committee has executive session scheduled on Sen. Lovick’s 2SSB 5974 modernizing and strengthening laws concerning sheriffs, police chiefs, town marshals, law enforcement agency volunteers, youth cadets, specially commissioned officers, and police matrons and Sen. Dhingra’s E2SSB 6070, supporting the recovery of missing persons.

Toward the end of the day, the Education Committee has executive session scheduled on SSB 5956 addressing artificial intelligence, student discipline, and surveillance in public schools, prime sponsored by Sen. T’wina Nobles (D-Fircrest). In the Housing Committee, executive session is scheduled on Sen. Alvardo’s E2SSB 5496 and Sen. Slatter’s ESSB 6200.

 

Wednesday

Wednesday is opposite house policy committee cutoff – another crucial deadline for bills to move forward this session. The day kicks off with a possible vote on ESSB 5906, authored by Sen. Hansen, establishing data and personal safety protections within areas of public accommodation for all Washington residents.

Later in the afternoon, the Consumer Protection & Business Committee has a possible vote scheduled on ESSB 6031 enhancing public safety and enforcement of crimes that impact insurance, prime sponsored by Sen. Lovick.

The Appropriations Committee is scheduled to vote on amendments and moving forward the proposed House supplemental operating budget proposal, HB 2289. The Transportation Committee is also considering a vote on HB 2306, the House proposed Supplemental Transportation Budget.

 

Thursday

The Capital Budget meets Thursday morning to consider a vote on HB 2295, the House Supplemental Capital Budget proposal. The Transportation Committee is holding a public hearing on ESSB 6110, sponsored by Sen. Sharon Shewmake (D-Bellingham), addressing electric-assisted bicycles and electric motorcycles.

 

Friday

The end of the week starts off with a vote on the Millionaire’s Tax, ESSB 6346, from Sen. Pedersen. And in the Appropriations Committee, ESB 5872, from Sen. Claire Wilson (D-Federal Way), establishing the PreK Promise Account is scheduled for a vote.
