OLYMPIA – State Rep. Timm Ormsby (D-Spokane), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement today announcing his retirement at the end of his current term:
“I have had the great honor and privilege of serving the people of Spokane and the 3rd Legislative District in the Washington State House of Representatives for the last 23 years. But now is the time to pass the torch to the next generation of leaders. I will not seek reelection this fall.
“Serving through the Great Recession, Washington’s tech boom, a global pandemic, and a dramatic shifting of federal support challenged every decision legislators have made. Through it all, my focus has been on the people of Spokane and Washington state, and how we can best serve those who are hurting the most. I am proud of the work we have done, especially in the hard times, to put people first.
“There are many memories I could share, and too many people to thank for helping me along the way. I want to give special recognition to the staff of the Legislature, especially the non-partisan and partisan staff of the Appropriations Committee, who supported my work over more than two decades. And I also want to acknowledge and thank my Appropriations Committee members, with special recognition to the budget team members who joined me for the early mornings and late nights, making decisions that shaped our state operating budget and negotiating on behalf of the House of Representatives.
“I also want to thank my seatmates, current and past, for their partnership over the years and working with me for the success of Spokane and the 3rd Legislative District. I look forward to future legislators continuing that work.”
