Fitzgibbon sponsored legislation this year that would’ve changed the state constitution to allow lawmakers to redraw district maps with a simple majority vote, but only if other states engage in mid-cycle redistricting, like what’s going on now. Which states WA is gaining and losing residents from
Let’s start with the influx. Two states stand out: California and Oregon…There’s a huge drop-off after Oregon, and the No. 3 state is a bit of a surprise: Maryland. There isn’t much movement between Washington and Maryland, but from 2020 to 2024, it was lopsided in Washington’s favor — nearly 3,000 moving here compared with about 1,400 moving there. That left Washington with a gain of about 1,600 residents. The other states in the top five were Nevada and Illinois. Washington saw a net gain of around 1,100 people from each. Washington looking for solutions to looming water challenges
This year, all of Washington is experiencing drought, after a wet winter scuttled by warmer temperatures, according to state officials.
