Resources, Preparedness and Resilience

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

On Monday, parts of the peninsula received record amounts of rainfall. This resulted in serious flooding, road closures, and the need for Clallam County commissioners to declare a state of emergency

Those closures also isolated the east and west ends from each other. As of Wednesday night, Seiku was without fresh water as a result of a slide damaging a water main. While our region repairs and recovers, we will work with local officials to assess and meet the needs of our communities.

In the meantime, here are some resources and tips to help keep you up to date and prepared.

  • Clallam county non-emergency line – 360-565-2684
  • Clallam county roads closed due to storm flooding are being posted at this link
  • Call 911 for flood-related emergencies. To avoid tying up the phone lines, don’t call 911 for non-emergencies.
  • DO NOT ignore road closure signs. Throughout the state, drivers have ignored road-closed signs resulting in stranded/stuck cars, at times requiring rescue. This stretches the resources of our first responders at a critical time.
  • State highway roads and impacts are posted at this link
  • Stay off roadways and stay home if you can.
  • If you live in known flood areas or other low-lying areas, be prepared to shelter in place during flooding events, unless there is a life safety issue. Be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
  • You can find information about disaster preparedness here

We’ve been through a lot in the last couple of years, and this storm is yet one more disaster we have had to manage.

Our communities are strong, and our families are resilient. As your representatives, we will fight for you in Olympia, so you have the resources to help rebuild from adversity and disaster.

Stay safe and look out for one another,

Rep. Mike Chapman
Rep. Steve Tharinger
Sen. Kevin Van De Wege
