Post-session e-news

Dear friends and neighbors,

As the 2026 legislative session comes to a close, I want to share what we accomplished this year and how it’s making a difference here in the 44th Legislative District.

This session, I stayed focused on what I hear from you every day: community safety, housing people can afford, and making sure our growing region has the infrastructure it needs.

Transportation Investments for Snohomish County

With continued growth in Snohomish and Mill Creek, investing in our transportation system is essential.

This year’s transportation budget includes key investments that benefit our district:

  • Continued improvements along the I-5 corridor, helping reduce congestion and improve reliability for daily commuters
  • Safety and capacity investments on SR 9 and US 2, two of our most heavily traveled and high-risk corridors
  • Progress on SR 522 and local corridor improvements, easing traffic and improving connections across our communities
  • Funding for transit and multimodal options, expanding access to reliable transportation choices

These investments are about safer roads, shorter commutes, and a transportation system that keeps up with our community.

Local Projects Funded Through the Capital Budget

One of the most important parts of this session was delivering investments directly back to the 44th District.

This year, we secured funding for projects that support:

  • Local school upgrades and facility improvements, ensuring students have safe and modern places to learn
  • Community-based organizations and service providers, expanding access to programs that support families
  • Housing and shelter projects, helping address affordability and homelessness in Snohomish County
  • Public safety and neighborhood infrastructure improvements, including projects that improve accessibility and pedestrian safety

These are real investments in Snohomish and Mill Creek that will strengthen our community for years to come.

Investing in Safer Buildings Across Snohomish County

This year’s operating budget includes funding to support work on unreinforced masonry (URM) buildings, older structures that can be especially vulnerable during earthquakes. While this investment is modest, it’s an important step forward for increasing resilience in communities like ours, including protecting affordable housing found within many of these buildings.

Snohomish County has a significant number of these buildings, many of them located in historic downtowns and community hubs. Strengthening them helps protect small businesses, preserve local character, and most importantly, keep people safe.

I’ll continue working to build on this progress and advocate for additional resources so we can better support property owners and ensure our communities are prepared for the future.

Prioritizing Safety in Our Schools

Keeping kids safe is one of my top priorities.

This year, I was proud to advance legislation to make albuterol more accessible in schools, helping ensure students experiencing asthma attacks can get the care they need quickly in an emergency.

For many families, this is a life-saving measure. No student should be at risk because help isn’t close enough or fast enough. This bill is about making our schools safer and giving staff the tools they need to respond when every second counts.

Thank You

It was great connecting with so many of you this session. Your input helps guide every decision I make in Olympia.

Even though session is ending, my work for you continues year-round. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, ideas, or concerns.

It is an honor to serve the 44th District.

Sincerely,

Donaghy sig
