Senate passes Van De Wege Music Licensing bill

OLYMPIA – Small businesses are one step closer to relief from unscrupulous music licensing agents now that the Senate has passed an amended version of HB 1763. The bill, a priority piece of legislation from Rep. Kevin Van De Wege (D-Sequim), requires registration and filing with the Department of Licensing and additional information and protection for small business proprietors regarding contract requirements.

“Hopefully small businesses will soon see relief from the aggressive and intimidating behavior from music licensing agents,” said Van De Wege after passage of the bill. “I’m happy we’re able to get some of these provisions through the Senate and look forward to reconciling our two approaches.”

The House and Senate will now negotiate over the changes and, upon concurrence, the bill will be sent to the governor.
