Live final day coverage of the 2026 Washington state legislative session

State lawmakers in Olympia are in the final hours of the 60-day 2026 legislative session.

Before adjourning sine die, they’ll have to approve operating, transportation, and capital budgets and will be seeking to tie up some other loose ends with legislation.

Late Wednesday, the Senate gave final legislative approval to one of the most closely watched bills of the session, which would apply an income tax on household earnings above $1 million a year. That bill is now headed to Gov. Bob Ferguson, who intends to sign it.

Democrats in the House and Senate released their consensus operating and transportation budget bills on Wednesday, reconciling differences in the spending plans each chamber put out last month.
