OLYMPIA – State Representative Mike Pellicciotti, D-Federal Way, issued the following statement on his opposition to SB 6617, new legislation to change public record laws regarding the state legislature.

“Since my first day in office as a new legislator, I have voluntarily provided all of my public records. Last year, the media made a request of all 147 legislators for our calendars and text messages. I was one of the few to release my calendar and the only to release external text messages as requested. I then co-sponsored a bill to require all legislators to provide their public records.

“I strongly oppose Senate Bill 6617 which carves out special exemptions for the Legislature. Transparency in government is necessary for good government and the public expects us to be accountable to the people.”
