Tina Talk 2: Language Access in Public Schools

Parental involvement in their children’s schoolwork and activities is pivotal for student success. But for parents who are learning English, it is a struggle and even a barrier. This past session, with the help of Open Doors for Multicultural Families, I introduced House Bill 1153 to increase language access in public schools. The bill made it through the Education Committee but stalled in Appropriations. In this second edition of Tina Talk, I host Moses and Emily from Open Doors and also learn the experiences of two mothers, whose first language is not English, as they navigate the school system in their quest to support their kids.
