Bill’s Bills

Last Wednesday marked house of origin cutoff, which means that any bills not passed out of the House are likely dead, though they will get automatically reintroduced next year.

I am very happy to report that three of my bills continue moving along:

HB 1179, authorizing the state auditor to receive non-conviction data passed the Senate Law & Justice Committee on March 9, went straight to Rules and yesterday it was placed on the Senate Floor Calendar!

HB 1265, establishing a property tax exemption for adult family homes that serve people with intellectual or developmental disabilities and are owned by a nonprofit passed the Senate Committee on Human Services on March 14 and was sent to Rules.

HB 1387, requiring the Criminal Justice Training Commission to study how to establish a program to recruit and train a pool of applicants to increase the number of law enforcement officers in our state was referred to the Senate Law & justice Committee and is awaiting a hearing.

Bipartisanship: We have the stats!

In my March 7 newsletter, I told you that most of the bills we pass are bipartisan and now I have the numbers to back that up: After a week and a half of all-day floor action, we sent 328 bills to the Senate, of those, 257 passed with 80 votes or more, including 196 that passed unanimously.

Values & Priorities

Many of the bills we passed reflect our values and priorities; we had a strong focus on housing, workforce development, behavioral and reproductive health. Click on the image below to watch my latest video update where I discuss the package of bills passed by the House to protect reproductive rights.
