A note on the Transportation Budget

More milestones!  We passed the transportation and operating budgets out of the House on Friday and will bring the capital budget up for a vote on the Floor this week.

As second vice chair of the Transportation Committee, I worked closely with Chair Jake Fey, vice chairs and ranking members, as well as all the members of the committee.  We worked together to set priorities and support decision-making.  The need for all of us to get around safely and efficiently creates a lot of common ground.  I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with representatives from both sides of the aisle who care deeply about how transportation affects the lives of their constituents and work hard to make a difference.  This shared understanding was also evident in the final bipartisan vote of 90-5.

I am also grateful for the outstanding committee staff. They are talented, knowledgeable, non-partisan professionals who work very long hours preparing each part of the budget to make sure it all makes sense in the end.

Serving in a fiscal committee was new to me, but it’s been an extraordinary experience!

Watch my Floor speech on passage of this great transportation budget that puts people first:
