Rep. Derek Stanford

Thank you for visiting my website. As you know, this is an election year and we are required to follow legislative ethics rules to ensure state resources are not used for campaign purposes.

When election-year restrictions are in place, lawmakers who are up for re-election must limit outreach and external communications, including not sending out email updates after April 12, and not posting new content on our websites after June 30.

However, if you need information or have a legislative issue, please feel free to contact me with your requests and concerns and I will do my best to return your call, email or letter promptly.

Even though my legislative website will remain frozen until after the election, you can still get lots of useful information here:

Please keep in mind I am your representative year around, so don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Lawmakers urge community to stand up for neighbors

Yet again, a fiend rears its awful head. Intolerance seeded in ignorance and reaped in hate has surfaced this past year against the Islamic Center of Bothell (ICOB). Loathsome acts range from spray-paint vandalism, to the burning of an Islamic Center flag, to the destruction of Islamic books. The mosque had scheduled informational meetings around the community. Sadly, however, fear for the safety of congregation-members forced cancellation of these amiable gatherings. A good many residents of Snohomish and King counties … Continue reading

More education bills approved by House before key cutoff

Another round of education bills were approved by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, the final day to consider House policy bills during the 2014 legislative session. Nearly half of Washington’s one million public school students are eligible for free and reduced meals at school. Nourishment plays … Continue reading

Stanford leads work toward crucial public-works funding

“State support for local public-works projects dropped off a cliff last year, derailing projects for cities, counties, and ports all over our state,” Rep. Derek Stanford said today. “This lack of appropriate support has halted projects that are critical to public health and job growth. We need to fix this.” Stanford is prime sponsor of a legislative proposal (House Bill 2244) to restore funds to the state’s capital budget for urgently needed public-works projects. His measure received its first public … Continue reading

Stanford Does JLARC, Part Deux

It goes by the beguiling moniker “JLARC,” and its raison d’être is boosting efficiency and accountability in the public sector. Doing more with less, some call it, or just plain old working smarter. But call it what you will, the fact of the matter is that taxpayer dollars simply have to be stretched as far as possible. In that good-government vein, state Rep. Derek Stanford has been reappointed to this very entity: the Joint Legislative Audit & Review Committee (JLARC) … Continue reading

Reps. Luis Moscoso & Derek Stanford – Update on Special Session II

We are back at work in Olympia today.  It was certainly not our plan to still be here but, unfortunately, our education budget is still not approved. Governor Inslee made it pretty clear in his remarks this week why we’re at this impasse; both sides need to be willing to compromise and to focus on one goal – agreeing on a budget that meets our constitutional obligation to fund our kids’ education. We encourage you to click on the image below and … Continue reading
