Statement by State Rep. David Frockt on the Seattle Tunnel Vote

August 17, 2011

Seattle voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday, August 16, to move forward with the Highway 99 tunnel project. Following is a statement by Rep. David Frockt (D-Seattle) on the tunnel vote. Frockt represents North Seattle, where a significant number of commuters rely on the Highway 99 corridor to travel to Seattle and points south.

“The vote in Seattle makes it very clear that the tunnel project will move forward. As the next transportation package is developed in Olympia, it is critical that funding, or the authority for funding, the transit improvements contemplated in the original tunnel agreement be part of the package.

“I look forward to working with other local lawmakers and city and county officials to shape a 2012 state transportation package that fulfills these expectations arising from the original agreement.”
