—————————————————————————————-

Representatives of a coalition of community groups and law enforcement, along with legislators, will announce their united support for passage of consensus revisions to I-940 by the Legislature in the 2019 session.

The coalition worked together in the 2018 session and will again call on the Legislature to pass revisions to the measure approved by voters in the November 6 election. I-940 creates a good faith test to determine when the use of deadly force is justifiable, requires police to receive de-escalation and mental health training and requires law enforcement officers to provide first aid. The consensus revisions were approved overwhelmingly by the 2018 legislature but were not included in the I-940 ballot measure.

Speakers will discuss the consensus revisions and their united efforts to call upon the Legislature to pass them as one of its first acts of the 2019 session.

The House Public Safety Committee will hold a work session on the topic at 1:30 p.m. in Hearing Room D of the John L. O’Brien building.
