U.S. Rep. Denny Heck, who represents Olympia and Pierce County, to retire at end of term
Congressman Denny Heck, who has represented the Washington 10th Congressional District that includes Olympia and parts of Pierce County since 2013, announced Wednesday he intends to retire from Congress at the end of his term in 2020. The Democrat made the announcement in a letter to supporters. He said while he has enjoyed his time in Congress, the discourse in Washington, D.C., has left him feeling discouraged. Raquel Montoya-Lewis named as first Native American to Washington Supreme Court
As the first Native American to serve on the Washington Supreme Court – and only the second for any state supreme court in the nation – Raquel Montoya-Lewis expects some people will think she got the appointment because of her heritage. “People have said that about my successes since I was in high school,” she said Wednesday after Gov. Supreme Court: Car tab measure to remain on hold
The state Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that a voter-approved $30 car tab measure will remain on hold while a legal fight over the initiative’s constitutionality plays out. The Washington State Attorney General’s Office filed an emergency motion Monday saying Washington voters’ wishes were being “stymied” by a King County Superior Court judge’s decision to stop Initiative 976 from taking effect.
