Dear neighbors,
The 2016 legislative session recently ended. We accomplished some significant policy changes and adopted a budget that, while falling short of what I would have liked, invests in many of the urgent issues facing our state.
The final budget agreement addresses the growing homelessness crisis; works to fix our mental health system; invests in closing the opportunity gap so all students can be successful; begins to address our teacher shortage crisis; improves the lives of foster kids; and supports wage increases family child care workers.
It’s not everything I wanted, of course. That’s the reality of a divided government – the only path forward is through compromise.
