Hello, and welcome to my website. It’s an honor to represent the people of the 40th Legislative District in Olympia — including families from San Juan County and parts of Skagit and Whatcom Counties.

As your representative and a former Anacortes School Board member, I’ve made it my priority to fight for fully funding public education for Washington’s one million schoolchildren. During the last two sessions, we made new, critical investments in public education, as well as investments in repairing the social safety net and fixing our broken mental health care system. On all of these issues, House Democrats led the way.

If you’re interested in receiving occasional email updates from my office, click the E-Newsletter link to the left to sign up for email updates. You can also like the House Democrats on Facebook and follow the House Democrats on Twitter.

As always, please don’t hesitate to email or call my office with questions, comments, concerns or ideas you have. When you stay in contact with me, it helps me better serve you.

Until then,

-Kris

Biography

Now in her fourth term in the Washington State Legislature, Representative Kristine Lytton represents the 40th legislative district which includes San Juan County and parts of Skagit and Whatcom Counties. She serves as Chair of the Finance Committee, and is a member of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Appropriations Committees.

In her capacity as the House Finance Committee Chair, Kristine oversees issues relating to state and local revenues, including tax rates, tax exemptions and administration of the state’s tax code. She has worked to increase transparency in state tax exemptions, simplify business and occupation tax filing for small businesses, and continues to champion making Washington’s tax system fairer. Kristine believes in tax accountability and fairness to Washington’s middle-class families.

Kristine is a lifelong advocate for children and education. After having served two terms on the Anacortes School Board, education is the issue that motivated her to come to Olympia and work to expand opportunities for students, support quality teachers, and fully fund education. Her in-depth knowledge and focus on finding the best solutions for the children of our state have earned her a reputation as a leader on education in Olympia.

A healthy environment and a robust economy both locally and statewide are key priorities for the people of the 40th district. Through serving on Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, Kristine works to ensure the welfare of future Washingtonians by creating holistic and sustainable policies that protect and promote agriculture, environment, and economy.

In addition to her committee work, Kristine has been a member of Governor Inslee’s bipartisan McCleary plan workgroup since its conception in 2015. In this role, she works with the Governor and members of the Legislature to craft a plan that fulfills Washington’s constitutional obligation to adequately fund basic education.

Kristine and her husband, Mike, make their home in Anacortes.
